A Natural Beauty

Built on a foundation of Hawkesbury Sandstone, like much of the Sydney Basin, Paramatta is not just a culturally rich place but an environmentally beautiful one. Formed during the Triassic period, this characteristic sandstone is prominent in the landscape and contributes to the characteristic rocky outcrops and cliffs seen all around. The city is traversed by the Parramatta River, which has played a significant role in shaping the local landscape. Now, Nation residents and visitors alike can enjoy this stunning natural feature which provides a unique backdrop to all the many cultural and social happenings that take place everyday.
