My Nation by Julie

Written by Nation | 15/10

My Nation is a collection of stories about our residents. Here, the people who live with us share their experiences, memories, and everyday moments.

In this edition, resident Julie invites us into her NATION MERRYLANDS home.

Hi everyone! I’m Julie, and I’ve been calling Nation Apartments home since November 2024. I work in healthcare, helping people in their everyday lives, and live with friends who are like family to me. Having them here is part of what makes this place feel like home.

Outside of work, I have a love for fashion and enjoy getting creative with my personal style. You’ll often find me putting an outfit together or taking a photo of something that catches my eye. My camera roll probably tells you quite a bit about me!

It’s lovely to have a place where I can unwind, be myself and enjoy the everyday moments with my favourite people.

my journey to nation:

Honestly, Nation came to me.

I was living in Granville and looking at places online when an apartment here popped up on Domain. Merrylands wasn't really on my radar at the time. I submitted an enquiry without thinking too much about it, and about 10 minutes later someone from the Nation team called me. I actually thought they were calling about a job!

When I saw the apartment, I fell in love with it straight away. I've always wanted to live in a high-rise with huge windows and beautiful white curtains. The views were amazing and the apartment was so bright. I was so keen to move in that I moved within five days.

What did you expect renting here to feel like, and what actually surprised you?

The building itself has exceeded my expectations.

What's surprised me most is the sense of community. It's a really beautiful community and everyone is very friendly. The surprises have all been positive.

I also love the facilities. I use the gym and sauna regularly and I enjoy going to One Playground as well.

Tell us about a moment you felt this was genuinely home?

It's hard to pinpoint one moment because I feel it every day.

The apartment is always bright and sunny, and being here makes me feel good. It's a place I genuinely enjoy coming home to.

I also feel incredibly safe. I use public transport and sometimes get home late, but I always feel secure. Seeing the security guard when I arrive home is reassuring and gives me peace of mind.

What's a small daily detail of living here that means more than it should?

The natural light.

It might sound simple, but the brightness of the apartment affects me in such a positive way. Every day I appreciate how much sunlight comes through the windows.

I also love the little interactions with people in the neighbourhood. My regular coffee shop always waves when they see me, and the security staff always say hello.

What's something you've made better or made your own in your apartment?

I've added some plants over the years, but honestly I've always loved the apartment exactly as it is.

The space is so bright and welcoming. The views are incredible and I love spending time on my balcony.

I've celebrated two New Year's Eves here and have been able to watch the fireworks from my balcony, which has been amazing.

What's a moment of community here that stuck with you?

It's the everyday sense of connection.

The people at my local coffee shop know me and greet me when I come in. The security guard always says hello. There are lots of dogs around, kids running around outside, and people out enjoying the area.

It feels friendly, welcoming and alive.

What would you tell someone considering moving into this building?

I tell people all the time that they should consider living here. Especially for women, I think it's a fantastic place to live because I genuinely feel safe here.

I use public transport regularly and sometimes get home late, but I've never felt uncomfortable. The building is secure and seeing the security guard when I come home gives me real peace of mind.

If you're into health and fitness, you've got access to a gym, sauna and pool. The convenience is fantastic.

And the lighting is honestly amazing. Whenever friends come over, they always want to take photos on my balcony because the views and natural light are so beautiful.

If this chapter of living here ended tomorrow, what would you miss most?

Definitely the views.

The sunsets from my balcony are amazingly beautiful and they never get old. Even now, after almost three years, I'm still excited about living here.

That's probably the biggest thing I'd miss, waking up every day to those views and feeling genuinely happy to be home.
