A new kind of home for city starters and city stayers

Written by Nation | 15/07
The way Australians live is changing and renting needs to change with it.

More people are living alone, staying in cities for longer and looking for homes that support their independence without asking them to compromise on connection, design or amenity.

City Starter, City Stayer™ is Nation’s response.

This new rental living model has been created specifically for one-person households, combining thoughtfully designed private apartments with shared spaces, resident services and the ease of a professionally managed building.

City Starter, City Stayer™ is designed for people living independently at different stages of life – from younger renters establishing themselves in the city, to professionals who want to live closer to work and community, and people looking for a simpler, more connected way to live on their own.

It is not simply about creating a smaller apartment. It is about reconsidering what a rental home can offer.

Designed around real life

Every City Starter, City Stayer™ apartment has been carefully planned to make the most of its space.

Full kitchens, bathrooms and laundries are complemented by integrated furniture, bespoke joinery and considered storage, including practical details such as space for a bicycle and cordless vacuum.

The apartments will also be fully furnished, removing some of the cost, effort and waste that can come with moving between rental homes.

Some utilities will be included within the rental offering, creating a simpler and more seamless living experience from the day residents move in.

Your own space and more beyond it

A smaller private footprint should not mean a smaller life.

City Starter, City Stayer™ residents will have access to the broader spaces and experiences available throughout Nation's St Peters neighbourhood at Precinct 75.

These are expected to include a pool, gym, spa, cinema, music and podcast rooms, co-working areas, resident lounges and spaces to gather, relax or entertain.

It means residents can enjoy a home of their own, while having more room available when they need it, whether they are working remotely, hosting friends or simply looking for a change of scenery.

Expanding rental choice

There is no single way to live well, and no single type of home that will suit every renter.

City Starter, City Stayer™ is designed to add another option to the market, one created around the needs of people living independently in well-connected urban locations.

It forms part of Nation’s broader commitment to shaping a more responsive rental sector, one that recognises changing households, provides greater choice and treats renting as a long-term lifestyle rather than a temporary compromise.

Around 130 City Starter, City Stayer™ apartments are planned for Precinct 75 in St Peters, where they will sit alongside a diverse mix of larger homes for couples, sharers and families.

For Nation, this is an opportunity to continue influencing the future of renting in Australia, through better design, greater flexibility and homes that respond to how people actually want to live.

City Starter, City Stayer™ was recently featured by The Sydney Morning Herald, exploring the challenges facing people renting on a single income and the need for more diverse housing options.
